  • Overview

    The PLC Commissioning Engineer is responsible for the startup of the automated material handling equipment in warehouses and distribution centers, using complex troubleshooting and problem solving with an array of technical tools.


    • Start-up and commissioning of the controls software using ladder logic, statement list and structured compile list.
    • Test the interface between the Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) and Material Flow System (MFS), make modifications to correct possible errors.
    • Program, troubleshoot and repair or replace sensors, scanners, visualization systems, motors, frequency inverters and encoders.
    • Assist in identifying root cause of faults during commissioning and internal testing.
    • Work with the Controls Engineering staff and software developers to ensure the system meets the design criteria’s.
    • Implement small change requests based on customer needs.
    • Train the customer resident maintenance team to increase system knowledge, resolve issues and prevent issues from recurring.
    • Creates test cases and documents tests and reviews documentation and training materials.
    • Sets up the commissioning network (configure SSI Controls routers) to facilitate commissioning and testing. Makes sure that the network connections from site to office are up and running for the controls equipment.
    • Participates in internal meetings.
    • Work as part of a team to ensure meeting project schedule and deadlines.
    • Occasionally performs extended hours, weekend and holiday work in support project commissioning.
    • This position requires extensive travel and flexibility and is driven based on customer needs.  Occasionally travel may be required on short notice.


    • 2-year Associate degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience in similar work.
    • 1+ year of experience with PLCs, Siemens SIMATIC Manager experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of servo drives, or multi-axis positioning, SEW Eurodrive Motion Studio experience preferred.
    • Familiarity with automation technology, e.g. conveyors, automated cranes, packaging technology.
    • Knowledge of bus systems, e.g. Ethernet, ASI, Profibus, Profinet
    • Willingness and ability to work off shifts and weekends based on our customers’ business needs.
